Why Is It Important To Celebrate Matariki

Why Is It Important To Celebrate Matariki

What is matariki?
Matariki is a maori new year celebrated by the maoris from the tiny country of new zealand .
Matariki is the maori name for the clusters of stars called pleiades it rises in the mid winter, for new zealander the maori new year.

How did our tupuna celebrate matariki ?
Traditionally Matariki was celebrated by gathering with family, telling stories from the past and  harvesting with friends and family also celebrating their culture with the rest of the community to remember their whakapapa and people that have past on .

Where do we find the seven sisters of matariki ?
From early June, before sunrise, look to the north-east horizon. Find the constellation Tautoru, or Orion’s belt (sometimes called ‘the pot’). Trace a line northwards from the three stars of Tautoru. Look for a faint sparkle of tiny dots, about the same width as Tautoru is long. This is the Matariki star cluster. Matatiki can also be seen during the summer months in this location of the sky after sunset.

How do we celebrate matariki now ?
Traditionally Matariki was celebrated by gathering with whanau (family) and reflecting on the past. The festival’s connection to the stars provided an opportunity for families to remember their whakapapa (genealogy) and those ancestors who had passed away to the heavens. Offerings were made to land-based gods who would help provide good crops, and new trees were planted to signal new beginnings.

Why is it important to celebrate matariki ?

In years gone by, Matariki was thought to determine your crop for the coming season, and therefore it was important to recognise the part it played in nature’s cycle. The disappearance of Matariki in Autumn, signaled the time to gather and preserve crops, and so was an important marker in the harvest calendar.

Should We Wear A Uniform At Tautoro School?

Should We Wear A Uniform At Tautoro School?

Argument
  1. Reduce the cost if you pay for a one off initiation Uniform fee.
  2. Because you have bought a uniform you don’t have to keep up with the clothing/shoe trends and trying to be cool.
  3. Because you are wearing a uniform no one will bully your uniform off you.
  4. Wearing a uniform gives you a sense that you belong to your school.
  5. Safety you can see your school when you are on a trip.
Do you know that if you wore a uniform it could eventually save your life.
That is why I think we should wear a uniform it would reduce the cost for our whanau it stops trend buying it stops bullying you create a sense of togetherness at school and lastly a uniform could save your live.

Firstly i believe uniform help to reduce living costs for our whanau so you don’t have to buy a lot of clothes and spend a lot of money then you should have to and you can buy more important stuff than clothes every day, month and year you can save lots and lots and lots of money.

Secondly I believe if you have to wear a uniform you are not pressured to buy the latest trends in clothing and shoe wear and it can also gives you a sense of belonging to the school and stop keeping up with a new trend and make your whanau spend money on labeled clothes and stop people from stealing or people bullying you to give your shoes and clothes.

Thirdly wearing a uniform makes no one want to bully your clothes off you because they wouldn't want to steal some uniform off you that has tautoro school on it and they wouldn't be labeled so it will not be worth much.

Fourthly if you wear a uniform when you go on a trip you will have a sense of belonging to the school and people will Know where you are.

Should We Have Prefects At Tautoro?

Should We Have Prefects At Tautoro?

Arguments:
  • School prefects are role models
  • Supports younger students
  • Students look up to them
  • Students might want to become a future prefect

Should We Have Prefects At Tautoro?

Do you know that if we have prefects at Tautoro School it could help Tautoro School become the best school in New Zealand? Because great leaders have great behaviour and it would help younger students to be a better pupil at Tautoro. That is why I think we should have prefects at Tautoro School.

I think if we had prefects it would help the prefects of Tautoro School be better role models, prefects would help younger students, other students can look up to the prefects, other students might want to become a future prefect’s and it would help Tautoro School become the best school in New Zealand.

Firstly, it would help the prefects of Tautoro School be better role models for themselves and others. It would equip them with the leadership skills needed for the modern world.  Because the prefects would know what being a leader is like and when they're older, it would come to them naturally. That's how prefects would help people be better role models.

Secondly, prefects would support younger students whether it be inside or outside of the classroom. They can help inside the classroom by helping with websites like Manga High, Reading Eggs etc… And they can help outside the classroom by setting up games for the teina like Ki O Rahi, Rippa Rugby etc.. That's why I think prefects would be a good addition to our school.

Thirdly, other students can look up to them and follow in their footsteps to become a better pupil at Tautoro School. Because the prefects could show everyone else the right thing to do. For example, they could show other pupils the right thing to do in the playground. For instance, no fighting, no put downs etc… and showing people the right thing in class, i.e on the right site at the right time etc… that's why Tautoro School would benefit from prefects.

Fourthly, students might want to become a future perfect. This way, everyone would become a better pupil of Tautoro School. Because mostly everyone would know what it takes to be a leader and it would help them in the big wide world.

And that is why I think we should have prefects at Tautoro School.
